Recently, one of our customers who received a high pressure die casting mold one year ago began trial production. During the process, the customer reported that some areas of the die cast parts showed cold shut defects.
In response to this issue, our team did not express concern. Does the appearance of cold shuts mean that Raidymold supplied a defective mold? The answer is clearly no.
Before shipment, every mold undergoes trial production in our facility. We provide die casting samples to the customer for inspection and confirmation. Only after receiving customer approval do we proceed with final delivery. In addition, all molds are subject to strict pre-shipment inspection standards to ensure there are no issues before being shipped to the customer.
Since no problems occurred during our internal trial runs, what caused the cold shut issue at the customer’s site?
After analysis, the root causes were identified as:
- Excessive spraying during production
- Slow injection speed
This situation is not uncommon. Due to differences in die casting machine models, processes, and parameter settings, variations in final product quality can occur. However, customers can achieve qualified production by adjusting their process parameters.
Based on the customer’s on-site conditions, the Raidymold team provided the following recommendations:
- Reduce the spraying amount in the affected area and increase mold temperature
- Increase the injection speed to 4 m/s
(All recommendations were based on the customer’s actual production conditions and parameters.)
After implementing these adjustments, the customer successfully achieved stable production.
Our Quality Control and Technical Support
After each mold is completed, we conduct trial runs and perform comprehensive inspections, including:
- Visual inspection
- Dimensional inspection
- Internal X-ray inspection
Once all results meet customer requirements, samples are sent to the customer for further inspection and trial machining. Only after confirming that all requirements are met do we proceed with shipment.
It is important to note that differences in die casting machines, processes, and parameters may lead to variations in final products. Customers can optimize results through process adjustments.
If customers encounter issues that cannot be resolved, they can provide us with:
- Product defect details
- Die casting parameters
- Mold temperature and related data
Our engineering team will analyze the information and provide targeted solutions. This is one of the key advantages that differentiates us from other mold suppliers. We not only focus on the mold itself but also offer comprehensive solutions involving die casting machines and auxiliary equipment.
If necessary, we can also arrange on-site technical support and communication.
Main Causes of Cold Shut Defects in Die Casting
Cold shut defects on die cast surfaces are typically caused by:
- Residual moisture from spraying on the surface
- Low mold temperature
- Slow injection speed
- Improper high-speed switching position

Although various defects may occur in die casting production, all of them can be addressed with proper methods. For more details, please refer to our latest 2026 guide on defects and solutions.
